Speech Physical and Occupational Therapy

The foundations of this company were laid in independent contracting opportunities for occupational therapy services presented to Sandra L. Wenner beginning in 1975. The first contracts were for activities and consultations in nursing homes and later in consultation services to school districts. The business initially operated out of the Wenner home. In 1988 and 1989, the first office was opened in a single room in the business incubator at Meyer Associates on 7th Avenue in downtown St. Cloud.

In 1987, a significant change occurred in Medicare regulations, which allowed expansion of occupational therapy services in long term care and home care. By 1989, the demand for contracted occupational therapy services required additional staff. At that time, the business was incorporated as Occupational Therapy Associates of St. Cloud, Inc., and the first employee, a registered occupational therapist was hired. During 1990 and 1991, the company rented a two room office suite from the Family Counseling and Parenting Center on Stearns Way in St. Cloud.

During the early 1990's the company experienced rapid growth, resulting in addition of contracts in nursing homes, rural hospitals, additional school districts, home health agencies, group homes and sheltered workshops. The company then required a larger space, and rented a suite of offices at 120 North 10th Avenue, St. Cloud. By the end of 1995, employees numbered nineteen.

In August 1992, Occupational Therapy Associates of St. Cloud, Inc. became Medicare Certified as a Rehabilitation Agency. Continued demand for services in the areas surrounding St. Cloud indicated a need for comprehensive services. Licensure as a Class A Home Care Provider was attained in November 1994.

The first speech pathologist was hired in April 1995. Continued growth of the company required office expansion, and the company moved to its current location at 4180 Thielman Lane, Suite 104, St. Cloud. At that time, the expanded services were reflected in the new name of Alliance for Health and Rehabilitation, Inc. In January of 1996, the company hired its first physical therapist.

The current name, SPOT Rehabilitation, Inc. was adopted in August 1996, more accurately defining the company's comprehensive focus on Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy services. The logo and marketing materials currently in use were developed, and the trademark was registered with the State of Minnesota. SPOT Rehabilitation continues to foster company growth, stability, and the provision of quality broad-based rehabilitation services into the last years of the 1990s.

In July, 1998 continuing growth of the clinical practice made it necessary to again expand into the corner space adjacent to the existing office making the main office almost 6000 square feet. This allowed for increased treatment space and offices. New growth opportunities presented themselves in late 1999 when SPOT Rehabilitation contracted to provide therapy in three assisted living facilities and acquired a physical therapy clinic in Minnetonka. In 2000 an additional site was started in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.

In August 2003 the company was sold to Kathy Trueman, Kirsten Becker, Linda Baune, Dan Berg, Robbie Holen, and Beth Stienessen. In 2004, SPOT Rehabilitation became certified as a Class-A Medicare-Certified Home Care Agency, allowing us to provide Skilled Nursing, Home Health Aide, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Social Work services to clients in their homes. In June 2005 SPOT Rehabilitation moved its office to 2835 West St. Germain Street, a new 11,000 sq. ft. facility to better serve the needs of our clients.
