Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic physical therapy is another treatment strategy employed in the rehabilitation of the entire body. The physical properties of water, such as buoyancy, viscosity, hydrostatic pressure, temperature, and surface tension offer advantages to clients who exercise in the pool versus land. Often clients who are unable to exercise on land due to pain, weakness or balance disorders are able to exercise within the pool environment and gradually build strength, balance and endurance to eventually allow exercise on land against gravity. The body experiences an up thrust or buoyancy to allow less stress placed on weight bearing joints and thus improving the posture and decreasing pain upon exercising in the water environment.
